Meet the New Vision School Staff

Courtney & Jason Morich

The New Vision School community holds a very special place in our hearts. Over the past 5 years we have had the pleasure of experiencing first-hand the community and educational philosophy of the school.  As the Owners/Directors we are committed to taking exceptional care of the school, students, families and staff.

Our children Jack, Cora and Josephine attend New Vision School.

Sorcha E. Meek Paul

Assistant Director/Teacher

Raised by artists and educators, my upbringing has shaped my life. I spent my childhood in Ireland where my siblings and I attended a Montessori school that was founded by our mother. It was an environment filled with creativity and progressive teachers who were passionate about their subject matter. As a teenager I moved to the U.S. where I experienced both a non-traditional education in a small private school and a traditional public education. These experiences have enriched my work as a practicing artist and educator.

I received a B.A. in Visual Communication at CSUC, and studied fine art at the Art Institute in Florence, Italy before embarking on a career as a professional artist and teacher. I received my Masters in Education from PSU. I have lived in Hood River for the past 17 years with my husband, raising our two children, while working as a professional artist and teaching.

I feel strongly about fostering creativity while integrating art across the curriculum. I am very excited about my seventh year working on the team at New Vision School!

Margie Fickett

Lead Preschool Teacher

I’ve lived, taught and played throughout the Columbia River Gorge for the past 20 years. I have taught multiple ages and subjects in recent years including: cooking, gardening, photography, bee keeping, and art. You may have seen me sharing my passion for education at schools, farmer’s markets, community gardens, summer camps or the Children’s Museum of The Gorge.  However, the one age group that I began teaching many years ago continues to bring me the most happiness and joy when I’m teaching; and its preschoolers. I believe learning should be fun, engaging, active, and filled with nature and the arts.  I love to create inviting hands-on spaces and activities that stimulate curiosity and playful exploration. I’m ecstatic to be joining the New Vision School to share once again in the magic of those first years in the classroom.

Rayna Morton

Yoga Instructor

Hi, my name is Rayna and I have been on the New Vision Team since January of 2016. I teach yoga for our students. I have been a children’s yoga instructor for 4 years and have run my own children’s classes and camps. I also have experience as a teacher’s assistant and lead teacher at local pre-schools. I am passionate about inspiring children to learn and explore with joy in their everyday lives, by creating awareness and connection with the world around them.

In yoga I teach body and emotional awareness in a playful way through mindful awareness

activities, self-calming techniques, meditation, art, music and yoga asana. By building self-confidence and sound moral values I help our youth expand their minds and find their place in this world. I am an enthusiastic volunteer and have offered free yoga classes to various schools and children’s activities around town. I care deeply for the future of our community and have dedicated my work to providing our children with the skills they need to build a bright future full of love and peace.

Kandy Giles

Teaching Art Integrated Science along side the humanities is an absolute dream come true!

I became a teacher because I volunteered at a Quaker Friends School when my daughter started kindergarten. As I stayed on to develop & teach a technology curriculum, I fell in love with creating an environment supportive of ethical, best practices & where every individual is cherished & given fair, appropriate opportunities.

My alma mater is Webster University in St. Louis, where I received my education degree & teacher certification. I created a STEAM not-for-profit educational program called ArtCare & worked at several unique schools in the Midwest before venturing back to the NW permanently.

My pedagogy includes inspiration from the Reggio Emilia Approach, Love & Logic classroom management, non-verbal skills practice & experiential discovery. I also adore being a new grandma, a mother of two gifted souls, a working artist, a community builder & a wannabe quantum physicist!

Rachel Moore-Beitler

Theatre Teacher

I am delighted to be in the three classrooms this year as music and theater teacher for New Vision. I have over a decade of experience doing performing arts with kids, and believe that improvisation games and ensemble singing boost self-esteem and creativity! I play the guitar and piano, and have done a wide variety of musicals and singing groups over the years.

When I'm not in the classroom, I am playing with my toddler, or working with acupuncture clients of all ages in my downtown office. I have a special place in my heart for New Vision families and the well-being of our community.

Cynthia Caudill

I am a teacher, artist, mother of three and wife who lives in Hood River.  I have been surrounded by creativity all my life.  Both of my parents and my husband are artists.  I grew up in Oregon City and attended the University of Idaho where I earned my degree in Elementary Education.  I started my career teaching in elementary schools in Portland and The Dalles. I discovered my favorite subjects to teach were Math and History, and I always found a way to incorporate art whenever possible.  After spending 10 years teaching and having three kids, I decided to stay home to raise my family. During this time, I realized my passion for sustainability and became a Master Recycler. I harnessed my creativity into starting a business called ReThink Crafts where I create using upcycled materials.   For the past 5 years, I have combined my creativity, passion for sustainability and love of teaching to become a Teaching Artist for the Columbia Gorge Arts in Education.  I am also currently training to become a Dyslexia tutor.

I am excited to be part of New Vision this year and to be back in a classroom where I can foster long-term relationships with the students and families.
