How will my child be assessed?

New Vision School does not issue grades or administer standardized tests. Children's progress, however, is constantly monitored. Parent- teacher conferences are scheduled several times throughout the year. Teachers write reports about each student during the mid term and at year-end.

Why is playing such an integral part to your curriculum?

Play is not only a child's real work in life, it is the foundation of creativity yet to come. For the young child, play is a way of understanding the world and is vital for healthy emotional and intellectual development. The inner forces of imagination, cognition, and flexibility that are developed during play become the capacities for life-long learning.

How are behavioral problems handled?

As Alfie Kohn states in Beyond Discipline From Compliance to Community, " The real quantum leap in thinking is not from after the fact to prevention, where problems are concerned. It involves getting to the point we ask, "What exactly is construed as a problem here-and why?" It means shifting from eliciting conformity and ending conflict to helping students become active participants in their own social and ethical development". In the K-1 grades, a peace puppy will be used to help students talk out their issues with one another, and come to healthy resolutions. We will often have class meetings to discuss ideas such as, "ways we want our class to be" and to discuss "how we can live and learn together". It is our goal at New Vision School to keep the curriculum rich and the children engaged so that the need for rebellion and acting out boredom does not find roots. There will also be a quiet space that a child can go to if they need time to relax with their minds, or to take a time out from the group. Consistent, gentle guidance to help children recognize for themselves which actions bring them happiness and which actions make them feel diminished and unhappy will be in motion. The goal of New Vision is to provide a loving, family like atmosphere and we apply all of these strategies as a way to make it a comfortable and accepting surrounding.

Are you a Waldorf School?

New Vision School has adopted principles and philosophies from Waldorf Schools, but is not Waldorf exclusive.

How will New Vision School sustain itself?

Through active participation from parents, a deep commitment from the founder and her family to education, and a very successful business manager who has worked to develop a solid business plan, the school will thrive.
